About

The Blogofiles is a blog that celebrates words and language. Primarily words out of the molten pot that is the English language, but it’s not confined to English. It’s not even confined to words that are spelt correctly – if a misspelt word or a typo tells an unintended story, The Blogofiles will be there to tell it.

New Zealand English is my mother tongue, and so I’ll spell “misspelt” that way rather than “misspelled”, and “spelt” rather than “spelled”. If I use local idioms, I will try to remember to explain them as I go.

DISCLAIMER: All misspellings on this site – if you can find them – are intentional for reasons of wordplay. (Or they’re unintentional.)

When I employ it, my humour is likely to be of the deadpan Antipodean variety, as dry as it comes. I kind of like paraprosdokians, too.

And, of course, plays on words.

My Story

I have lived various parts of my life in Malaysia, USA and the United Kingdom, but New Zealand is my home.

Structural Engineer

I come from a career in structural engineering, that well-known incubator of good writing.

Business Owner

In 2019, I stepped away from engineering and purchased a small electrical supplies business. The business doesn’t keep me busy all day, which gave me the opportunity to launch my freelance writing business. As Rollin Kennedy | Word Engineer, I provide proofreading, copy-editing and writing services. So far, my clients have included companies in Australia, Belgium, Abu Dhabi, New Zealand, USA and the United Kingdom.
